Robert DeWitt "Bobby" Harris

On Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, Robert DeWitt “Bobby” Harris of Indianapolis, IN, passed away.  Bobby is preceded in death by both his parents Lawrence Clifford (Ruth) Harris Sr. and Barbara Jean (Manny) Gant-Johnson; sister, Myrna Gant-Johnson; brothers, Lawrence Clifford Harris Jr., Dana Gant; grandmother, Ollie Harris.

Bobby was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 12, 1952 and was the 2nd oldest of 13 children.  He learned to play the trumpet in grade school and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School where he was a member of the band.  Post-high school, he began his profession as a painter and musician.  

Bobby always had a love for music and as a trumpet player, he traveled to Canada and various cities as a band member.  He was baptized at an early age at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He loved his family and was instrumental in helping raise the next generation of children.  Bobby enjoyed playing chess with his brothers, cards, and dancing.  His favorite words of faith were, “I am not afraid, I got my God in me.  The main thing is don't panic. We can do anything if we don't panic.”

Bobby leaves behind his fiancé Michelle Smith; brothers, Jesse (Nina) Gant, Juan (Phyllis) Gant, Reverend Michael (Rita) Gant, Brian (Gina) Harris, and Jason (Amanda) Harris; sisters, Janet (Dewayne) Freeman, Karen (Jim) Gant-Johnson, Marcia Gant, Danita (Reverend Karl) Hampton-Willis; and many loving extended family members including nieces, nephews, and cousins.
