Michael E. Matthews, 67, of Indianapolis passed away on November 26, 2017. He was born on January 28, 1950 in Danville, IL to Starling and Ernestine (Brown) Matthews. Michael moved to Indianapolis in 1976. He worked in retail sales and was a retail salesman for H.H. Gregg for 22 years and retiring in May of 2017. He was a very hard worker. Michael loved sports and competed in track and football, winning certificates of merit for both. He enjoyed reading in his recliner, walking the Monon trail and the Northwestway park. He liked music and attending concerts. Michael is preceded in death by two brothers, LeWayne Matthews and Mark Matthews. He is survived by his parents; loving ex-wife and caregivers Leslie (Stan) Gardner; daughters, Melissa Lomax and Nicole Matthews; sons, Michael Matthews II and Shaun Matthews; son-in-law, Jeffery Lomax; sisters, Sherri (Greg) Houchins, Laaiqua Jami and Paula (Barry) Crockett; brothers, Randy (Judy) Matthews and Terry Matthews; special friends, Kimberly Brown, Finas Glenn, Greg Luckett, Stacy Hawkins, Christian Mundy and Shawn Jenkins. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Special thanks to St. Vincent’s Hospice and Golden Living Center.
